Wreck Diving Specialty Course
Explore the Mysteries of Sunken Wrecks
Diving on wrecks means diving in the past and experiencing history first hand.
It is an unbelievable experience to see a big ship from a bird's perspective and to glide towards it, watching it slowly materialise in front of your very eyes as you descend through the water column.
Here in Brisbane we are lucky enough to have a world class wreck sitting on our doorstep, the ex-HMAS Brisbane. "The Brisbane" is an ex-naval destroyer that was decommissioned in 2001 and scuttled for divers, making it the perfect training site as all hazards and dangers were removed from the ship prior to sinking.
There are some potential risks involved with wreck diving which you will learn about on your course as well as the related skills involved with diving wrecks safely. You will learn where and how to get background information on wrecks, how to locate wrecks and how to prepare for a wreck dive.
During the practical ocean component you will apply the correct wreck diving techniques, as well as, evaluate and avoid the potential risks while diving on wrecks.
Course Format
One Evening Theory plus Four Dives
Theory is a few hours on a Tuesday evening and four dives are required in the ocean to complete certification. The practical component is conducted on the ex-HMAS Brisbane over a weekend at Mooloolaba. Transport is provided back and forth on both the Saturday and the Sunday, however staying the night at Mooloolaba is also an option.
